‘One of the best’ – Kris Boyd drools over ‘fantastic’ Rangers ace with ‘big character’

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor will surely be remembered as a club legend when the time comes for him to finally hang up his gloves.

The stopper will be 38 next month, but he shows no sign of slowing down any time soon, and has been a virtual ever-present for Steven Gerrard’s men since being given the number one shirt at Ibrox.

And he showed his quality again with a typically immense performance against Celtic.

The Gers’ 2-1 win wouldn’t have been possible were it not for his superb penalty save in the first half.

And speaking prior to the game, Kris Boyd was quick to sing the big man’s praises.

Speaking on Sky Sports (Sky Sports Football, 12.30, December 29th), he said: “Allan is one of the best.

“He’s a fantastic goalkeeper. He’s one of those guys that you want on your team.

“He’s a big character, he knows what it means.”

He’s absolutely right too.

McGregor is not only a top, top class shot stopper, but he is also a fantastic presence to have in the side.

Experienced and level-headed, he is exactly the kind of figure you want between the sticks, commanding a backline.

The lift that the Gers got from him plunging to his left and batting away Ryan Christie’s spot kick was visible, and the psychological boost it must have given his teammates cannot be understated.

This season still has a long way to run, of course, and you can expect all sorts of twists and turns in the title race before a champion is crowned, but if the Bears can end Celtic’s run of dominance, then you can bet that save will be looked back on as one of the defining moments of the campaign.
