Kris Commons drools over ‘superb’ Rangers ace after Old Firm win

From first whistle to last, Rangers had 11 warriors out on the pitch at Parkhead on Sunday afternoon.

From Allan McGregor saving that penalty early on, to Nikola Katic popping up to thump home an emphatic headed winner, there were a whole host of contenders for man of the match.

In the end, that accolade went to Borna Barisic, and it’s not hard to see why.

The Croatian assisted both goals for the Gers on Sunday, and his delivery for Katic’s header in particular was nothing short of inch-perfect.

And his efforts more than caught the eye of pundit Kris Commons.

Speaking after the match on Sky Sports (Sky Sports Football, 14.30, Sunday December 29th), the ex-Celtic man said: “Barisic for me, what a player he is.

“Without a question, superb.”

This was a special display from Barisic, and aside from his two assists, he was absolutely relentless down that left hand side.

The partnership he is beginning to strike up with Ryan Kent is starting to look very potent, and if the pair can keep that up then it will hopefully lead to us seeing the best of both of them over the course of the rest of the season.

Defensively, Barisic is looking solid too.

The Gers have now conceded just 11 goals this term, the lowest in the division, and James Forrest basically didn’t get a look in all afternoon.

In the end Neil Lennon saw fit to replace the winger, but honestly, you would have been forgiven for forgetting her was on the pitch at all.

We’re getting to a point now where Barisic is seriously beginning to establish himself as the best left-back in Scotland, and if he can keep up this kind of form then he will surely be in with a shout of a player of the year award.
