Ibrox first teamer facing uncertain future keen to remain at 'massive' Rangers

Jermain Defoe has made a superb impact at Ibrox since arriving from Bournemouth on loan last season, and it would appear that he is intent on keeping his honeymoon period in Glasgow going for as long as possible.

The veteran hitman netted his 14th goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Hibernian on Friday as questions continue to loom over his future at Rangers.

But the player himself has made it clear that his loyalties now lie with the Gers.

Speaking after that game against Hibs, as quoted by the Daily Record, when referencing the new deals recently signed by fellow veterans Allan McGregor and Steven Davis, Defoe said: “I’m still on loan so my situation is different to theirs.

“But hopefully it will be sorted and I can enjoy this season and we can achieve something special together and then I can look forward to next season.

“It’s a special club to play for. Since I’ve been here, I’ve not thought about going anywhere else. It’s a massive club.”

He may be 37, and he may not start every game because of the irresistible form of Alfredo Morelos, but this is a striker who was averaging a goal every 69 minutes prior to finding the back of the net against Hibs, as per Transfermarkt.

Forget his ages, forget anything else, if you have a player like that at your disposal and he wants to stay put, then you move heaven and earth to make sure it happens.

Hopefully we will see Defoe announced as a permanent addition over the summer, because losing him would be gutting.
