Confirmed: Rangers player puts pen to paper on new contract until 2022
Rangers have kept up their spree of new deals by handing a contracts to youngster James Maxwell.
The Gers announced on Saturday that they were giving a new contract to fellow teenage defender Nathan Patterson.
And they followed it up with a similar announcement on Sunday afternoon, revealing that Maxwell has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the club until at least 2022.
As with Patterson’s deal, this is a brilliant statement of intent from the Light Blues.
Maxwell has been a regular for the reserves so far this term, and has impressed, both in domestic and European competition.
Seeing as the Gers have lost youth players before, getting talents like Maxwell and Patterson tied down seems like an absolute no-brainer.
The boss has proven experience of working with precocious academy prospects from his time with Liverpool, and the hope will be that pedigree, combined with the added security of longer contracts, will convince him to give these young lads a chance as and when he can.
Immediate success would be nice, and will no doubt be the priority at Ibrox right now, but if Gerrard can build a dynasty at the same time, what’s not to like?
