Every great team needs a great captain, and there aren’t many better than James Tavernier at the moment.
The Rangers man isn’t just a leader on the pitch, he is also a stellar character off it, as proven by the latest video of him doing the rounds on social media.
Following Friday night’s 3-0 win over Hibernian, the 28-year-old went over to the away fans and gave his shirt to a young supporter, refusing to leave until he had gotten a high five from the lad too.
It might only be a small gesture, but it will have made that youngster’s Christmas, and will no doubt remain with him for the rest of his life.
There’s a real togetherness about the Gers under Steven Gerrard, both on and off the pitch, and the presence of Tavernier, both as a player and a figurehead plays no small part in that unity.
Obviously, it helps that he’s so incredibly prolific when it comes to assisting his teammates from wide areas and set pieces, but you could certainly argue that it is equally important that Ibrox have a leader who they can get behind properly.
With yet another class act from the skipper, he has shown just how significant he is to the character of Gerrard’s squad, and fans on social media have reflected that in kind…
The guy is just a class act on and off the field. Proud to have James as our Captain.

Perfect captain. A true gentleman and a cracking player. Doesn't get the recognition he deserves!
