Report - English club plot swoop for Rangers ace, Gerrard open to exit

Steven Gerrard has already made it clear that there will be outgoings at Rangers in January.

The boss has been open about his plans to move on certain members of his playing staff when the transfer window opens next month, as per the Gers’ official Twitter, although he stopped short of naming any specific departures.

One man who could be on his way out, however, is Greg Docherty.

According to a report from Football Insider, the 23-year-old is the subject of interest from English League One side Shrewsbury Town, where he spent last  season loan.

The report also states that Gerrard would be open to allowing Docherty to leave for another temporary stint in the second half of this campaign.

So far the midfielder has played just five times this term, and has not made it onto the field in the past four months.

On the basis of that alone, he needs to be getting more minutes.

There’s no doubting the lad’s talent, having scored 10 goals and assisting 11 more during his spell in England last term, as per Transfermarkt, but he is at an age where first team football is a must.

You get the feeling that Docherty’s career at Ibrox stands on a knife edge.

If he doesn’t start kicking on soon, he will get left behind, and if that happens then it could be very difficult for him to turn things around.

Get him out on loan, let him play, and let’s see what happens.
