Ibrox View: Europa draw as good as Rangers could have hoped for
Rangers were rewarded for their Europa exploits with a plum tie in the Europa League knockout stages.
Rangers ended up finishing second in their group after conceding a late goal to Young Boys.
However, they ended up with the easier knockout tie after group winners Porto were drawn against Bayer Leverkusen.
Rangers could have drawn Manchester United, Arsenal, Sevilla, Inter Milan or Ajax, and have to be happy with a two-legged tie against Braga. It’s about as good as it gets as an unseeded side.
Braga finished above Wolves in their group but are struggling in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, where they’re currently ninth.
Braga beat Wolves 1-0 at Molyneux in the first game in the group and then got a 3-3 draw at home.
That shows it won’t be easy but Rangers will think they’ve got a real chance of getting through.
The first game of the knockout will play out at Ibrox on February 20 before a trip to Braga for the decider on Wednesday, February 26.
Celtic got a favourable draw as well, against Copenhagen.
