Ibrox View: Fearsome European stat shows Rangers progress under Gerrard

Rangers qualified for the Europa League on Thursday, although they gave fans a scare when they conceded late on.

Another goal for Young Boys would have seen a team in a table-topping position crash out within a matter of minutes.

However, they held on for a 1-1 draw and that means that under Steven Gerrard, 14 different teams have come to Ibrox and not managed to win.

This is who have come to Ibrox and failed to leave with the three points…

  • Porto
  • Feyenoord
  • Villarreal
  • Spartak
  • Rapid Vienna
  • Maribor
  • Midtjylland Legia
  • Shkupi
  • Osijek
  • FC Ufa
  • St Joseph’s
  • Progres
  • Young Boys

The big difference this year is that Rangers will welcome another challenger to Ibrox, and this time the stakes will be even higher.

The next ties for Rangers will be winner-takes-all knockout games and by finishing second in the group, Rangers opened themselves up to facing Champions League dropouts like Inter and Salzburg. The latter beat Celtic home and away last season.

Rangers could also face Arsenal and Manchester United, although they could get more favourable ties against Malmo, and Gent.

By making it 15 without a win at Ibrox for their opponents in 2020, Rangers will take a big step towards progressing even further in the competition.
