Good news continues for Rangers as two first-team players sign new contracts

A brilliant week for Rangers got even better with two key first-team players agreeing new contracts.

After the disappointment of the League Cup final (and the performance there gave plenty to cheer), Rangers put their woes behind them by progressing to the knockout stages of the Europa league on Thursday.

Then, manager Steven Gerrard agreed a new deal that will see him stay at Ibrox until 2024. Followed by two key first-team players.

Goalkeeper Allan McGregor was the first to commit himself to another year at Rangers, meaning McGregor will be at Ibrox until the summer of 2021.

He’s been brilliant since he arrived at Rangers on a free from Hull but at 37 Rangers will be on the lookout for his long-term replacement now.

After signing, McGregor said, “You need to have standards here and you need to train how you play. I’ve been brought up with those standards so to continue doing that is a big thing here because you should be training the way you play.”

Then, on Saturday, midfielder Steven Davis also agreed a one-year extension to his contract.

That will also see him stay at Ibrox until 2021.

On his second stint with the club, Davis has been running the midfield for Gerrard and has made 43 appearances.

Both players will play a huge part in bringing silverware back to Rangers over the next 18 months.
