BBC pundit predicts Aberdeen v Rangers clash

BBC Sportscene pundit Steven Thompson has predicted that Rangers will go into the League Cup final on Sunday with a win against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Rangers can’t afford to take their foot off the pedal tonight as they travel to Pittodrie.

Steven Gerrard’s men are level on points with Celtic, who they play on Sunday in the cup final. Celtic are top on goal difference but the gap has been shrinking and Rangers are just one goal off the summit now.

It’s possible that both teams could win tonight and that Rangers could go top.

However, Thompson thinks it will be a lot tighter than the reverse fixture at Ibrox, which Rangers won 5-0, with goals from James Tavernier (2), Greg Steward, Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe.

In his regular prediction column on the BBC, Thompson said he thinks that Gers will win 2-1.

Celtic have an easier game, at home to Hamilton, and Thompson thinks they will win that 4-0.

The League Cup final plays out on Sunday at Hampden Park and represents the first big chance of silverware in the Gerrard era.

BT Sport are starting their coverage at 9am and running through until 6pm.
