Ibrox View: BT Sport show Sky how it's done with bumper coverage for Rangers v Celtic
BT Sport are putting Sky Sports to shame and showing how coverage of the Scottish game should look for the League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic on Sunday.
It’s a massive game. Old Firm clashes are always huge but this is a cup final and Rangers’ first since the 2015/16 Scottish Cup final.
It’s the first Old Firm final since Rangers beat Celtic in the 2010/11 season and is set to be the most competitive for years.
Rangers and Celtic are joint-top of the Premiership with just one goal separating the two sides.
It’s also the perfect opportunity for the BT Sport cameras to catch Alfredo Morelos scoring his first goal against Celtic.
BT Sport is going to town on it, knowing that there’s going to be interest way beyond the two clubs’ supporters.
They’re starting coverage at 9am and running all the way through to 6pm.
That’s in sharp contrast to Sky who seem to find pundits who want to run the Scottish game down and often finish before managers can give their verdicts on the game.
This is BT’s last season showing the League Cup and they don’t show the Scottish Cup. Sky have all the Premiership games next season and Premier Sports will show both cups.
Hopefully, Sky will learn something from BT Sport’s approach.
Talking to the Daily Record, Grant Philips, Executive Producer and Match Director at Sunset and Vine, the production company behind BT’s coverage, said: “We are throwing everything at it.
“It’s our last one, a huge game for BT Sport and our Sunset and Vine team in Glasgow.
“We love covering Scottish football and that’s reflected in everything we do up here.”
Sky Sports… Are you watching and taking notes?
