Third in Europe – the stat that shows how impressive Rangers are this season

Rangers have ranked just behind Man City and Ajax from 35 leagues across Europe for passes inside the opponent’s third of the pitch.

The stat, from the CIES Football Observatory shows how much Rangers are dominating in their domestic fixtures.

Man City came out on top with 210 passes in the opponent’s third, while conceding just 59 passes in their own third, giving them a ratio of 3.55.

Rangers conceded the same number of passes in their final third and made 179 themselves for a ratio of 3.03, the third-best in Europe.

It puts Rangers ahead of Barcelona, Liverpool and Juventus, and, of course, Celtic.

The stats might be skewed in favour of Rangers a bit because of the quality of opposition in the Premiership, but Steven Gerrard’s men still comfortably outscored Celtic who made just 161 passes in the final third and conceded 64 for a ratio of 2.50.

The two teams are tied at the top of the Premiership but this is proof that Rangers are dominating opponents more.

Hamilton are at the bottom of the table with a ratio of just 0.39 (63 passes in their opponent’s final third to 163 conceded) and they’re Rangers’ next opponents in the Premiership on Sunday (12.15pm kick-off).
