Report: McCrorie returns to Rangers after suffering injury on loan

Ross McCrorie has returned to Rangers after suffering a hamstring injury that will keep him out of action for between four and six weeks.

The 21-year-old is partway through a season-long loan with English League One side Portsmouth.

He was forced off after 40 minutes of the 4-1 win against Southend last Tuesday, following a man of the match display against Oxford a few days earlier.

He had already pulled out of the Scotland Under-21 squad, where he was due to be during the international break.

Now, he will carry out the start of his rehabilitation at Rangers, according to the Daily Record, although that doesn’t signify that his loan deal has been terminated.

It is expected that he will return to Fratton Park and stay with Portsmouth to the end of the season.

He’s made 11 appearances for the League One side after being dropped for five games. He had started the last four consecutive league games ahead of his injury.

The 21-year-old has made 55 appearances for the Rangers first team and last made an appearance in the 2-0 win against Celtic back in May.

After his move to Portsmouth in the summer, Gerrard denied that the League One club had an option to buy McCrorie, saying, “There’s no deal for him to go there permanently. It’s a development loan to improve him because he’s our player and we want him here for a long time.”
