Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has hailed Filip Helander as ‘outstanding’ after the 1-1 draw with Porto in the Europa League last Thursday.

Talking ahead of the Premiership game against Ross County on Wednesday night, McAllister said, “I think you’re seeing a player with proven international experience in Helander, he was outstanding in Porto.”

The centre-back hasn’t been a consistent starter since his £3.5m move from Bologna in the summer.

He was only on the bench for the last three qualifying games in the Europa League but has played the full 90 minutes in each of the three group games.

It looks like he’s finally delivering the sort of form that Rangers fans were hoping for and scored the winner in the game against Motherwell on Sunday in only his third Premiership start.

That was crucial to ensure Rangers keep pace with Celtic at the top of the table and we’re expecting him to partner Connor Goldson again in the centre of defence on Wednesday night.

In a positive fitness update, McAllister also said he hoped every player would be fit for tomorrow’s game, although there was a doubt over Allan McGregor and Brandon Barker.

McAllister also said that Ryan Kent was being managed carefully as he navigates his way back to full fitness.
