'Jog right on' – Some Rangers fans react as Gerrard reportedly linked with Championship club

Steven Gerrard was a risk for Rangers but it’s one that looks like it could pay off in a big way.

Gerrard had never managed at senior level before he came to Ibrox but after a first season that promised plenty but ultimately delivered nothing, Rangers are now top of the league.

Gerrard has taken a squad that was pretty hopeless and turned it into one that could actually stop Celtic from winning nine-in-a-row.

Rangers have only lost one game this season – against Celtic unfortunately – and have scored 14 goals in their last three games and conceded none. In Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe they’ve got arguably the two best strikers in the division.

It’s perhaps not surprising then that Gerrard has been linked with a move to Championship club Leeds. They’re currently managed by veteran Marcelo Bielsa but the talk is that he would probably not stay for a third season in the Championship if Leeds don’t get promoted this season. They’re currently fifth.

Gerrard, meanwhile, is being primed for the Liverpool job but Jurgen Klopp is under contract until 2022 and he’s surely unlikely to leave early. That leaves three years. Could Gerrard be tempted in a move to Leeds next season?

Rangers fans don’t think so, asking why he would take a step down to manage in the Championship when he’s at top-tier Rangers and playing in Europe.

This is what the fans are saying…
