Why Rangers played a blinder with £7m Anthony Patterson decision
Rangers had a big decision to make after the latest information on Anthony Patterson.
The Sunderland shotstopper is deemed surplus to requirements at the Stadium of Light this summer, after spending last term on loan at Millwall.
The Gers have been active in the transfer window so far, and have already made a goalkeeping switch.
With Jack Butland moving on to newly promoted Premier League outfit Hull City, Croatian goalkeeper Ivor Pandur came the other way for £6million.
This matches the theme of the window in general, with Rangers not looking to mess about as they prepare for the new term.
However, they have made the correct decision based on the latest reveal involving Patterson.
What has happened with Anthony Patterson for Rangers to deserve praise?
As per Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Championship side Wrexham are making a bid to sign the goalkeeper described as "top" by Tony Mowbray.
The report suggests that the ambitious Dragons are hoping to secure a deal, whether this be on loan, or for £7m as a permanent move this summer.
Nixon also says that Millwall are interested in bringing him back for a second spell.
Rangers come into this for the fact that they pulled out of the deal alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers.
With £7m on the table, both clubs were put off a move, as they could not join the race until they made a sale.
Both Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone are likely to leave Molineux this summer, but the situation at Ibrox is much clearer.
The Gers have made the right decision in bringing in Pandur, instead of getting involved with Patterson, with so many clubs interested to potentially push up the price or derail a move.
Patterson rejection is a sign of larger Ibrox shift
Less than a month ago, the Gers were planning for the coming season with Danny Rohl at the helm.
Now, fans at Ibrox are willing on Derek McInnes to bring home the first title in half a decade.
Based on the early business, there is every reason to be excited.
Every piece so far has been intentional, addressing key areas, and bringing in players almost guaranteed to perform at the level required.
The decision to pull out of the Patterson race matches this too.
Instead of bending to Sunderland's will, Rangers held firm and knew their position, which is a huge piece of progress compared to the scattered approach of last summer.
The Govan side are getting along with their business nicely, and there is obvious reason for excitement around Ibrox at the moment.
