John Souttar is the epitome of a forgotten man at Rangers this season.

The 30-year-old centre-back has not been involved in a single matchday squad in any competition for Rangers in 2026-27 so far.

Despite that, the Scotland international is indeed registered as part of Derek McInnes' squad, meaning this could change at any moment.

The chances of that happening, however, are slim to none, with Souttar clearly not part of McInnes' plans at Ibrox.

He had looked set to leave Govan to join Greek side Aris Thessaloniki last month, but the move broke down at the final hurdle.

Now resigned to remaining in Glasgow until January at least, Souttar's career is at major risk of total stagnation.

Where is John Souttar pictured in Rangers' team photo?

As is customary for most football clubs, the new season brings about the requirement for a team photo.

Rangers have left their one rather late this term, but Thursday has seen Gers officially release one for the class of 2026-27.

Posing with the Sandy Jardine Stand behind them, McInnes' squad and his coaching staff are captured in the Glasgow sunshine.

However, it may take you a while to pick out where Souttar is hiding amongst the group, so take a good look before we spoil it...

Found him yet? If not, start by working up from McInnes in the centre and cast your eyes to the back row.

Stood directly to the right of Olwethu Makhanya is where you'll find Souttar.

The Rangers outcast is largely hidden behind goalkeeper Mason Munn, who has since left Ibrox to join Dumbarton on loan.

It's hard not to see that as anything but a clear visual metaphor for Souttar's place in this Rangers squad.

However, he's not the only player pictured in this photo with something similar done for them.

Who is the other Rangers outcast pictured in squad photo?

If you looked at the squad photo in full detail, you may have noticed another player pictured who is way down the Ibrox pecking order.

Sitting the furthest right of any Rangers player on the bottom row is Ross McCausland.

The 23-year-old winger hasn't played a minute of league football this season after returning from his loan spell in Cyprus with Aris Limassol.

A Northern Ireland international, McCausland did get a brief cameo in the Premier Sports Cup against St Mirren back in August, but that's all he's got so far.

Like Souttar, he's also registered as part of McInnes' squad, so the Bears boss is making a conscious decision to leave him out every week.

But with numerous wingers arriving in Govan over the summer, it will take the injury crisis to beat them all for McCausland to find first-team relevancy this year.
