Why Rabbi Matondo's career is back on the cliff edge months after Rangers exit
Rabbi Matondo left Rangers for SK Brann back in April 2026.
The Welsh international was hoping to revive his career after being cast aside at Ibrox.
His ousting was largely down to an inability to trust his fitness with his list of injuries in Glasgow continuously growing throughout his time.
Unfortunately, Rangers grew tired of waiting for him to return to his best and, despite being contracted, allowed him to depart for free.
But, now, Matondo looks to be back in a similar boat in Norway.
And there are plenty of reasons for Rangers to care about the developing situation.
Why Rangers fans should care about Rabbi Matondo latest
While Matondo is no longer on the books at Ibrox, there is still plenty of reason for Gers fans to keep an eye on his career.
The Glasgow side allowed Norwegian side Brann to snap him up on a free transfer but did include both add-ons and a sell-on clause.
So, the latest news emerging out of Norway is certainly not great for the Govan-based club.
Matondo has confirmed to Norwegian Outlet, Bergens Tidende that he has been told he is no longer in Brann's plans.
He stated: "It's a shame. I wanted to show myself to the fans. Now it looks like I might not get the opportunity to do that in Brann."
Meanwhile, sporting director said: "For now, we assume that he has a contract until the end of the year. So we will see how things develop for all parties in the coming weeks/months."
Overall, Rangers chances of getting any additional funds through the sell-on clause or bonuses appears to be slim.
The likelihood as things stand is that Matondo will become a free agent come the end of the year, ending any prospect of a windfall for the Gers.
What's gone wrong for Matondo?
Rangers fans will not be surprised to hear that fitness issues have been the main cause behind Matondo's failed move to Brann.
The Welsh international has struggled to get up to speed in order to play matches.
So far, the former Rangers star has featured for just 30 minutes for the Norwegian outfit since joining in April.
However, Matondo believes he can get up to the level Brann requires if he is afforded more game time in matches.
In truth, it's a catch-22 as Brann won't play him until he is ready and the winger feels he won't be ready until he gets that chance.
