When Derek McInnes 'hopes' to get Rangers transfer news in fresh winger confession

Rangers fans will be waiting by the phone after Derek McInnes' latest transfer admission.

On the eve of a crucial night at Ibrox in the Europa League against Jagiellonia, McInnes' mind is on transfers.

Rangers have made nine new signings so far this summer, but more seems to be needed if they're to win the league this year.

Irons are in the fire on the recruitment front, with attackers and defenders being touted with moves to Ibrox before the window shuts.

So far, many of the new arrivals haven't quite hit the ground running in Govan, which has contributed to a slow start to the campaign.

"We're trying to bring wingers in, it's in the hands of the recruitment team to get that over the line," he said.

"Hoping for some good news today or tomorrow. We're looking for the best person.

"I'm hopeful we get the players we need and I want to make sure we do as quickly as possible."

In summary, McInnes has said he wants more than one new winger, as well as emphasising the importance of character when hunting new signings.

Of the nine new signings made by Rangers this summer, only Lawrence Shankland is 30-years old or over.

In fact, Shankland is the only outfield player in this current Gers side over the age of 30, with goalkeeper Liam Kelly being 30 as well.

Compare that to Celtic's squad, and they currently have three outfielders over 30, as well as a seven players aged either 28 or 29 respectively.

Having considerably more experience in their squad can be a huge advantage when it comes to being able to stick around in a title race.

Those sorts of players know how to stay calm and focused when the pressure is on, whereas a largely youthful squad can struggle with that.

Rangers have enough high-potential youngsters in this group, and so perhaps McInnes should put a focus on these final additions being more experienced players.
