What's next for Rangers as advanced talks now held for Mohamed Diomande exit

Mohamed Diomande could be heading closer to the Rangers exit door this summer.

The midfielder came off the bench at half-time of the Gers' desperately disappointing 2-1 defeat to Hibs at Ibrox on Sunday.

He was also involved last Thursday when the Gers slipped to a 2-1 loss at Polish outfit Jagiellonia Białystok in the first leg of the third round of Europa League qualifying.

But Rangers are looking a little overstocked in the centre of midfield following three new additions.

Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin, and Vanja Dragojevic have all signed on as part of an extensive summer recruitment drive for Derek McInnes.

And Diomande looks like he could be moved on in the coming days as Rangers look to redress the balance in the centre of the park.

What's the latest with Mohamed Diomande's Rangers future?

It was reported on Sunday that Turkish Super Lig outfit Corum FK had made a bid in the region of £4.8million (€5.6m) for Diomande.

Given Diomande has been involved in the early stages of the campaign, it was a little surprising to see that he could be moved on.

But it does look as though things are progressing between and Rangers and Corum to get a deal done for the Ivorian midfielder.

Sky Sports have now reported that the two teams are in advanced talks over the transfer for the 24-year-old.

The report adds that the two clubs are now working on finding a final fee for Diomande, who moved to Ibrox on a loan with an obligation to buy back in January 2024.

What's Mohamed Diomande's contract situation at Rangers?

It is maybe somewhat of a surprise that Rangers are considering allowing Diomande to depart.

But, given the overstock of central midfielders at Ibrox right now, some tough decisions are going to have to be made.

And Diomande fits right into that category of is it better to stick or twist this summer.

The 24-year-old still has two years to run on his contract, which expires in the summer of 2028.

But it does mean if Rangers do not agree a sale this summer, they risk allowing his value to drop in 12 months time.

Moreover, by that stage Diomande could end up seeing out the final year and Rangers risk losing him on a free.

There are players in the squad fans would probably rather see depart before Diomande, but it is than sweet spot of getting cash in before his value plummets due to the time left on his deal.
