The Greek side seemed confident they could get a deal over the line for the Scotland international, but the move has now hit a snag.

One of Aris' spokespersons admitted that financial issues between Souttar and Rangers were holding up his move to Greece.

According to The Rangers Review on 12 September, the defender wants a "significant" six-figure sum from the Gers before signing for the Thessaloniki club.

The Scotland international signed a one-year contract extension, with an option for a further year, in February, and he's now seeking compensation before joining Aris.

With the Greek side set to finalise a deal for Souttar, the move now hangs in the balance and is under threat after the impasse at Ibrox.

The Glaswegian outfit have told the defender and Aris that he won't be paid the full amount due before the end of his contract next summer.

Souttar must now find a resolution with the Thessaloniki club before the deadline day in Greece to reignite his transfer.

It's clear that McInnes doesn't have any faith in Souttar and he will struggle for game time at Rangers this season.

Having been left out of the Scottish manager's plans since the start of pre-season, the centre-back doesn't have a lot of options left now.

While it seems like the Gers want to push the defender out, it wouldn't be the worst thing if he stayed.

The Light Blues evidently lack depth at centre-back, with Emmanuel Fernandez, Olwethu Makhanya and Ben Godfrey the three natural options.

A couple of injuries could see McInnes face a massive crisis in the backline and having Souttar at his disposal may be worth it then.
