Vaclav Cerny has quickly become one of the most important players in the current Rangers squad.

Since joining on a season-long loan from Wolfsburg in the summer, the winger has notched 11 goals and seven assists, many of which have seen him play a starring role in games.

The 27-year-old has kept Ross McCausland on the bench, who started the 2024/25 campaign rather brightly and continues to take the youngster's spot in the starting XI.

At this rate, he will finish the season with an even better impact than Abdallah Sima, who became a fan-favourite last term before returning to Brighton, but this time things must be different.

Philippe Clement failed to add the 23-year-old to his squad on a permanent basis, but with Wolfsburg potentially open to the sale of Cerny [TransferFeed], Patrick Stewart has the perfect chance not to repeat failure.

Rangers must secure Vaclav Cerny's signature before it's too late

With Villarreal's manager convinced that Cerny will be an "important" January signing [Fichajes], the Light Blues are quickly running out of time to iron out a permanent deal for their in-form winger.

Barry Ferguson believes a potential sale could be worth up to £6million [Daily Record], and with the Gers' current financial situation, it could take some juggling of funds to make the purchase possible.

However, with how incredible the Czechia international has been this season, and how regretful many are over the missed Sima deal, there is absolutely no way the Gers can allow him to leave.

The Light Blues needed just a handful of games before deciding £4million would be spent on Oscar Cortes in an obligation-to-buy clause [Football Scotland], a player who has been sidelined for much of his time in Scotland so far.

Cerny has proven to be far more important and dependable than the Colombian so Stewart needs to do what it takes to purchase the winger, even if that means sealing exits for other players.

Cyriel Dessers and Ridvan Yilmaz have both been linked with multi-million pound exits this January, and either of those players would open up some much-needed funding to keep Cerny at Ibrox indefinitely.
