Todd Cantwell’s instant reaction to Ben Godfrey Rangers move sparks attention
Ben Godfrey completed his move to Rangers on Monday after a season-long loan deal was agreed with Atalanta.
The 28-year-old becomes the second signing of Derek McInnes' spell in charge of the Light Blues, after he wrapped up the return of Ross McCrorie last week.
Lawrence Shankland has also signed for Rangers this summer, joining from Hearts prior to McInnes' arrival in Govan.
Now, Godfrey has signed on a temporary basis for now, with Rangers holding the option to make the deal permanent next summer for £3.8million.
Godfrey arrives at Ibrox with a wealth of experience under his belt, having played over 100 times in the Premier League for Ipswich, Everton and Norwich, while also playing in Serie A, the Champions League and the Danish Superliga, where he played on loan for Brondby last term.
The defender's move to Ibrox has no doubt caused a stir, but it's Todd Cantwell who's generated a fresh discussion among fans with his reaction to the deal.
Todd Cantwell’s brief message steals the spotlight
After wrapping up his loan move to Rangers, Godfrey took to Instagram to big up the deal.
He said: "What a feeling joining Rangers on loan!
"It’s an honour to be able to represent this club.
"[I'm] really looking forward to wearing the kit and meeting you all at Ibrox."
Blackburn star Cantwell, who left Ibrox for the EFL Championship club in 2024, was among those to quickly respond to Godfrey's post, simply writing: "WATP."
Although the ex-Rangers playmaker's 'We Are The People' message was short and sweet, it provoked a reaction from fans.
What supporters are saying about the exchange
It's no doubt been a mixed reaction to Cantwell's attempt to show off his Rangers past after seeing Godfrey move to his old home.
During his time at Ibrox, Cantwell flattered to deceive, with many critical of the Englishman's failure to apply himself properly and also his major lack of consistency.
And that inconsistent approach has also been backed up by the fans' response to his message, with one saying: "Come back, please, man." Another said: "Always a Ranger."
However, one pointed out that Gers supporters "hounded" him out of Ibrox, with another asking: "Do tell me what exactly did Cantwell do?"
A lot of the other responses were so negative we daren't publish them on here.
