Cardiff City do not appear to genuinely be interested in Rangers attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell, according to Mark Hendry.

In his Football Scotland article on 31 July, sources claim that the 26-year-old's representatives were likely the ones drumming up an interest in him.

The Englishman has issued a transfer request at Ibrox but Philippe Clement did not confirm that he will be leaving.

Hendry wrote: "Cardiff City were believed to be keeping an eye on the former Norwich City midfielder but sources have confirmed to us that it seems to have come from his representatives looking to drum up interest.

"He issued a transfer request recently but Clement refused to close that door immediately, or permanently."

Rangers must cash in on Todd Cantwell in August

Keeping a disgruntled player like Cantwell can have several negative impacts as his dissatisfaction with the club could lead to a decline in his performance on the pitch, which would be detrimental to the team's overall success.

Additionally, his presence in the dressing room could have a demoralising effect on his teammates, potentially disrupting team cohesion and harmony.

Moreover, the 26-year-old's desire to leave suggests that he is not fully committed to the club, which could hinder his motivation and dedication during training and matches.

This lack of commitment could also lead to a lack of effort on his part, further impacting his performance and the team's results.

Furthermore, given that Cantwell is unlikely to be a first-team regular, his wages and potential transfer fee could be better utilised in strengthening other areas of the pitch.

By selling Cantwell, Gers could reinvest the funds in acquiring players who are fully committed to the club and can contribute more effectively to the team's success.
