Todd Cantwell is now undergoing his Blackburn Rovers medical ahead of a permanent exit from Rangers, according to Raman Bhardwaj.

The STV presenter reported via X on 30 August that the English midfielder was going through testing on the morning of Transfer Deadline Day ahead of his move to Ewood Park.

Light Blues fans have been angered by the former Norwich man after he asked to leave the club this summer.

Philippe Clement wants Nedim Bajrami in at Rangers

Cantwell's position is clearly untenable at Ibrox after the transfer request so it is important that there are no late hitches with the medical.

The deal is also said to still require the go ahead from Blackburn owners Venkys, with John Eustace hoping that comes on Deadline Day [Daily Record, 29 August].

It is clearly a disappointing likely end to Cantwell's Gers career when a year ago he was arguably the main star in the squad and was espousing his connection to the Light Blues.

But the departure of Michael Beale as manager and his replacement by Philippe Clement looks like it was a key factor.

If Cantwell can be offloaded and the Albanian international brought in it would be a very positive switch at this stage for Clement, and finally provide competition for Tom Lawrence in the number 10 role.
