Rangers and Blackburn Rovers are looking to progress their deal for Todd Cantwell to the medical stage in the next 24 hours, according to The Athletic.

The outlet reported via its live blog on Thursday (29 August) that the two clubs are in advanced talks over the Englishman with a view to completing a medical either later today or early on Friday (30 August).

Philippe Clement's side are expected to receive a fee in the region of £500,000 for the 26-year-old who submitted a transfer request to depart Ibrox earlier in the summer transfer window.

Reports suggest that the Englishman has agreed to take a slight pay cut in order to get his move to Ewood Park over the line before the transfer window slams shut on Friday [Alan Nixon, 28 August].

Will Todd Cantwell exit Rangers amid Blackburn Rovers transfer rumours?

While Cantwell's Rangers exit isn't done and dusted, it seems as though talks are progressing between both clubs with a view to reaching some sort of agreement sooner rather than later.

While most supporters would have liked to have seen the Light Blues pocket a much bigger fee for the Englishman this summer, their negotiating position was always going to be harmed by his public desire to leave Ibrox.

Ultimately, the most important thing is that Clement has managed to get yet another first-team wage off of his books and therefore created another gap on the Gers' bill that could well be taken up by a new signing.

Hopefully, the final parts of Cantwell's move will be completed sooner rather than later so that he can undergo his medical and finally confirm his move away from Ibrox and transfer to Ewood Park.

If the deal can be finalised before the close of play on Thursday, it will give Clement and Nils Koppen a full day of the window to try and secure the signatures of their own transfer targets.
