Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell will formalise a move to Trabzonspr shortly having met with one of the club's executives, according to Karadeniz Gazete.

The Turkish outlet reported on its website on Thursday (8 August) that one of the Turkish side's chiefs flew to Glasgow on Wednesday (7 August) to meet with the Englishman who has submitted a transfer request.

Cantwell is understood to view a move to Trabzonspor as the right next step in his career having held positive talks with the European club during their face-to-face meetings.

Will Todd Cantwell exit Rangers amid Trabzonspor transfer rumours?

Rangers will want Cantwell off of their books sooner rather than later. The Englishman has made it clear he wants to leave Ibrox and it is in the Gers' interest to get his wages off the books before the end of the window.

Philippe Clement was keen to oversee a squad rebuild this summer and while he has made several changes to his playing ranks, more sales are required for the Belgian to be able to add further recruits to his team.

Cantwell is a sellable asset and while his value may have fallen slightly following his transfer request, his age and profile mean that the Light Blues should still be able to command a multimillion-pound fee for his services.

Todd Cantwell has asked to leave Rangers before the transfer deadline.

Hopefully, Trabzonspor are ready to make that sort of offer. The midfielder seems keen to make the move to Turkey so if the two teams can agree a fee, personal terms shouldn't really pose any sort of issue.

The reports from Turkey suggest that this deal should move quickly over the coming days, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Cantwell's exit confirmed ahead of this weekend's clash with Motherwell.
