Tochi Chukwuani is becoming a forgotten man at Rangers.

Having made a £4.3million move to Ibrox in January from Sturm Graz, the central midfielder was expected to become a key player for Rangers.

Of the 15 Scottish Premiership games he played in last term, the Dane started 13 of them.

This suggested that a significant starting role would be on the agenda for him heading into his first full season in Govan this year.

But so far in 2026-27, the 23-year-old is yet to start a single league game, culminating in just 42 minutes of action.

He's a considerable way down the pecking order under Derek McInnes, and that will only push him closer to the exit door.

When does Tochi Chukwuani's Rangers contract expire?

Chukwuani joined Rangers with Champions League pedigree on his CV from his 18 months as a Sturm Graz player.

His aforementioned transfer fee signalled just how much initial belief Ibrox chiefs had in his acquisition.

Fast-forward to the present, and that belief seems to be waning, as he's been on the pitch for just 11 minutes across his last three league games.

Of course, he was brought to Glasgow under the management of Danny Rohl, and the German's exit has had major implications for Chukwuani.

The midfielder signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Rangers in January this year, taking his deal up to the summer of 2029.

But if he's to even get remotely close to seeing out this agreement, he needs some Ibrox dominoes to fall in his favour.

Why Chukwuani could be closer to Rangers revival than you may think

Currently, Chukwuani is battling to cling to his dwindling Rangers relevancy under McInnes.

The road back to a regular starting role for him seems distant right now, but all that could change in a matter of months.

January 2027 will be a watershed month for Chukwuani, as it could either revive or bury his Rangers career depending on the business done.

Nicolas Raskin will inevitably be again linked with a move away, whilst Jose Cifuentes is sure to be one Gers chiefs look to get off the books.

Should both of these players go, that would leave McInnes with just Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Vanja Dragojevic as his natural central midfield options.

Devlin is currently injured and still has the jury out for many fans, whilst Dragojevic looks every bit of a raw 20-year-old talent that needs patience.

So, don't write Chukwuani's Rangers career off just yet, as he's one or two plausible transfer exits away from being a vitally important player again.
