Samuel Edozie keen to join Rangers before late Transfer Deadline Day talks collapse

Rangers failed to get a late deal to sign Samuel Edozie over the line despite agreeing terms with Southampton, according to The Athletic.

The outlet reported in a late update on their website on 30 August that terms could not be finalised with the winger himself when faced with the 11pm deadline.

The Scottish Sun reported via their website on 30 August that the Englishman had been "keen" on the Ibrox switch but talks collapsed at a late stage.

Rangers did sign Nedim Bajrami on a permanent deal and a Neraysho Kasanwirjo loan on the final day.

Transfer Deadline Day was probably a slight improvement on the window as a whole but still ended disappointingly, as the did the whole summer.

Philippe Clement got his defensive replacement in after Ben Davies loan to Birmingham and finally has a new number 10 option in Bajrami, who was the Gers' priority heading into the final day [Daily Record, 29 August].

It also can't be underestimated how significant it was so secure an exit for Todd Cantwell to Blackburn given how messy the situation would have been if he had stayed, potentially requiring a pay off to terminate his contract [PLZ Soccer, 26 August].

But after seemingly getting so close to a deal for Edozie, 21, in the final hours it can't be dressed up as anything other than bad news that the club didn't get it over the line.

If terms had been agreed with the Premier League side and the wide man himself was keen to move it is unclear why an agreement couldn't be reached, potentially with a deal sheet being submitted to get an extra two hours for completion after 11pm.
