Ross McCrorie is edging ever closer to becoming Rangers' second arrival of the summer transfer window.

The full-back departed Ibrox on a full-time deal for Aberdeen in 2021, after failing to establish himself as a regular starter.

Two years later, McCrorie would head south of the border to join Bristol City, where has been a standout performer in the English Championship.

With long-term captain James Tavernier departing Ibrox, an opportunity to return to his boyhood club has now presented itself.

McCrorie is well known to new Rangers manager Derek McInnes, who was the man to take him to Pittodrie.

And a reunion with the versatile defender, who can also operate in midfield, looks a formality with terms of his contract and transfer now emerging.

How long will Ross McCrorie's contract be at Rangers?

McCrorie is set to return to Ibrox with plenty of experience under his belt, and he could be a pretty shrewd piece of business by Rangers.

Now 28, his ability to play in several positions is an attraction, but he will likely compete with Dujon Sterling for the right-back berth.

Details of his contract have now been revealed by Rangers Review, who state that McCrorie will sign a three-year contract at Ibrox.

That will keep McCrorie at Rangers until the summer of 2029, with Rangers clearly of the view they are getting a player in the peak of his career.

Moreover, the online outlet reports that Bristol City are set to receive an initial fee in the region of £900,000 for the transfer of McCrorie.

However, they add that add-ons to the transfer could add another six-figure sum to the overall total Rangers will pay.

What has Derek McInnes previously said about McCrorie?

Rangers are clearly looking to add some tried-and-tested Scottish Premiership players to their ranks this window.

Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland has already been plucked from rivals Hearts, and McCrorie knows all about the league too.

McInnes has spoken glowinly of McCrorie in the past, so it should be little surprise to see him so keen to take him to Ibrox.

He was previously quoted as saying of McCrorie: "I just love the boy. I think he's a dream on and off the pitch.

"His athleticism gets him out of trouble, his brain gets him out of trouble, gets him into positions. Having Ross's power and intelligence in there allows us to play with one or two more attacking players."

While the signing of McCrorie might not exactly be viewed as a glamour transfer, there is definitely sense in bringing him back.

Rangers have lacked players with nous of the league for too long, and McCrorie will certainly bring that to the squad.
