Rangers: Vaclav Cerny comments revisited as welcome Ibrox return mooted
Rangers have reportedly held behind-the-scenes discussions about bringing Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox, with a move this summer possible.
The Bears are in need of a new right-winger following the decision to opt against signing Andreas Skov Olsen on a permanent deal.
Gers already have Djeidi Gassama, but reports from Turkey suggest that his game time could be at risk, as the Light Blues would like to welcome Cerny back.
The 28-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell at Ibrox during the 2024-25 season, racking up 27 goal contributions in 52 games.
After signing on loan from VfL Wolfsburg, the Czech went back to his parent club before leaving to join Besiktas last summer.
There has now been talk in Turkey of Cerny potentially heading back to Ibrox, and this time on a permanent basis.
Everything Vaclav Cerny has said about Rangers since leaving
Cerny has had a good season in Turkey with Besiktas, and it's not known whether the player would be open to an Ibrox return.
The only obvious hurdle right now is due to the uncertainty around Danny Rohl's future, with the head coach in talks to join RB Salzburg.
However, it could be that internal figures at Ibrox would like to see the right-winger return, regardless of who is in charge.
The player himself has spoken about Gers since leaving the club, and has always reflected well on his time in Glasgow, but did have some remaining regrets.
Cerny said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun in May of 2025: "I managed to play a lot of games, almost 60 in one season, which is wonderful. I had a wonderful relationship with the fans.
“I’m just sorry I couldn’t win anything with Rangers. But I will have very nice memories, they have a magical stadium."
When announcing his Rangers exit, Cerny posted a simple social media message: "Memories forever. Thank you, Ibrox."
It's clear that the forward has a connection to the Light Blues, and it will be interesting to see if he is open to a return.
Could Rangers afford Cerny this time round?
While on loan with the Bears, Cerny was grilled over whether he would stay around, and he always seemed open to the idea of it.
Gers didn't have a built-in buy option to his loan contract, but the general suggestion was that the club would have had to pay £8million for his services.
It's clear that Rangers didn't have that money to hedge all on the winger, though this time round, he could be cheaper.
Cerny had a good season with Besiktas, but it wasn't anything special, and so he could be worth around the £6m mark, a fee that the 49ers may see as a bargain this time.
