Jose Cifuentes is set to leave Rangers and join Aris Thessaloniki permanently with an official announcement expected soon, according to Teradeportes.

The Ecuadorian news outlet reported on 12 August that Aris are expected to finalise the signing in the next few hours.

The 25-year-old's move is now subject to a medical and then the transfer will be announced.

Via X, Teradeportes wrote: "Jose Cifuentes has arrived in Greece to join Aris Thessaloniki once he passes his medical checks.

"The Ecuadorian midfielder arrives on loan until the end of the 24-25 season, but the Greek team has the obligation to buy him for $4.5million (£3.5million).

"Aris is expected to make it official in the next few hours."

Philippe Clement gets his clearout at Rangers this summer

Philippe Clement took over mid-season in the 2023/24 campaign and did not have time to get the players he didn't want out of the door.

However, this summer, the likes of John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe and Connor Goldson, among others have all been shown the door.

Cifuentes is now following them out of the club and his departure will see Gers pocketing a decent seven-figure fee as well.

It's important that the club spends all of it back into strengthening the first-team squad and making the eleven more competitive.

The first two games of the domestic campaign have shown that Clement's side are not ready to compete with Celtic in the league.

Hopefully, the club have a replacement in place and things will accelerate the moment Cifuentes parts ways.
