Ryan Porteous, who is linked with Rangers, wants to leave Watford in the January transfer window, according to Fussball Europa.

The Daily Record claimed on 6 January that the 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Ibrox with the club in dire need of defensive reinforcements as injuries have left Philippe Clement down to bare bones.

It's understood that the Scotland international has made it clear he wants out of Watford and Hull City have already made a £1.6million offer.

Rangers fans are unlikely to welcome Ryan Porteous with open arms

Before moving to Watford, Porteous was at Hibs and was embroiled in multiple controversies with the Ibrox outfit.

He made a nasty challenge on former player Joe Aribo and was called out by Steven Gerrard as the foul got him sent off.

Rather than apologising for it, Porteous instead made fun of the former Gers boss when he left for Aston Villa.

While Gers are desperate to add quality in their backline, links with the 25-year-old make sense on paper, but considering all factors, it would be best to look elsewhere.

Fans are already not overly convinced by Philippe Clement's management of the club and getting an unpopular player in the January transfer window will only likely fuel the negativity.

Hopefully, there are alternate transfer targets that Nils Koppen has in mind to sign in the next few weeks.
