Rangers transfer business looks very different 12 months on as Ibrox reset becomes clear
Rangers are looking to finally end their long wait for another Scottish Premiership title this coming season.
The Gers last lifted the title in 2021, with Steven Gerrard at the helm.
The subsequent years have been difficult, with the most recent season epitomising that.
After Danny Rohl rescued the Govan side after the dismal Russell Martin tenure, Rangers just did not have enough at the back end of the term.
Losing four straight matches heading into the final day, the season came to a disappointing end.
Now with Derek McInnes at the helm, Ibrox News takes a look at the transfer business completed this time last year, and compares it with the groundwork put in so far this summer.
Rangers transfer comparison outlines streamlined goal
By 9 July 2025, Rangers has confirmed seven first-team incomings: Lyall Cameron, Oscar Cortes, Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Emmanuel Fernandez, Thelo Aasgaard and Nasser Djiga.
At that point, the Gers were looking to add depth to Martin's squad, though the overall impact would not reach the desired level.
This time around, there have been five first-team incomings, in Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil.
The important bit is the profile, with all being part of a spine building process, rather than simply throwing bodies into the squad.
Rangers dealt with Rohl's departure well; they have dealt with their business well so far; and all the signs point in the direction of the club being one fully with their ducks in order ahead of the new season.
Rangers' business is much less frantic than 12 months ago
Looking back at last summer, the Gers were severely unorganised, with the transfer direction favouring numbers over anything else.
This time, stock has been taken after last season, and decisions have been made.
So far, the direction has been well planned out, methodical and intentional - especially with the strengthening of the spine.
The Govan side have added steel, in battle hardened figures ready to arrive and make an instant impact at Ibrox - something that has not always been the case in recent years.
Alongside this, there is experience with the likes of Shankland, while the club do not appear to be finished just yet.
With the start of the term approaching, Rangers fans would love to see a few more over the line, as their side aim to lift their first title in over half a decade after the more intentional transfer policy.
