Rangers told to sign Couhaib Driouech as James Forrest comparison made

Rangers target Couhaib Driouech is in a similar mould to Celtic winger James Forrest, according to Mark Wotte.

Speaking to Glasgow World (30 June), former Scotland performance director and Morocco youth coach Wotte said that the 22-year-old could be a pacy, dynamic attacking outlet in Philippe Clement's side next season amid reports the Gers want to sign him from Excelsior.

The Dutch-born Morocco under-23 international has 12 months left on his contract with the relegated Rotterdam side, but fellow Eredivisie club PSV are reportedly leading the race to sign him [Rik Elfrink, 27 June].

Wotte said: “There will be plenty of competition, but if Rangers can sign Driouech they will enjoy him. He’s a talented boy.

"He would be good in Scottish football. And for Rangers, he’d be a similar type of player to what Forrest is for Celtic.

“He’s a winger who can come inside or outside, is quick, stocky, agile and brave. He’s a good dribbler and could be a good asset to Rangers.”

Rangers face tough task to complete Couhaib Driouech transfer

With clubs like PSV and Leeds United waiting in the wings, the Gers are up against it if they want to bring Driouech from Excelsior to Ibrox next season.

Philippe Clement's squad has already undergone plenty of changes so far this summer, and the wide areas are set to see more churn than most, with Tom Lawrence pushing for an exit in recent weeks [Fanatik, 12 June].

So far, the Gers have already seen Fabio Silva and Abdallah Sima return to their parent clubs after mixed spells in light blue, but have managed to bring Oscar Cortes back to Ibrox with a permanent deal lined up [Daily Record, 4 June].

A transfer for Yusuf Kabadayi is still on the cards, but after he himself had an up-and-down season in the German second tier with Schalke, questions remain over his ability to become a regular starter [SchalkeZone, 8 June].

Regardless, the Belgian needs attacking reinforcements out wide in order to close the gap on Celtic next season, and if he can bring in a player of Driouech's quality, he could go some way towards bridging it.
