Rangers told how to make fortune on Emmanuel Fernandez after he 'bullied' £11m Celtic star

Rangers received plenty of interest in Emmanuel Fernandez this summer.

The Gers were keen to keep hold of the centre-back, who only joined from Peterborough United for £3.5million last year.

He has formed an early partnership with Olwethu Makhanya at the back, as the pair kept Celtic at bay with ease on Sunday.

Derek McInnes appears to have figured out his favourite centre-back pairing, though Fernandez may currently be the more valuable of the two.

West Ham and Bayern Leverkusen were interested in the Nigerian international this summer, but the Bears will be hoping that his price tag is driven up even further this season.

Rangers could potentially make a hefty profit on Fernandez in the future, but Andy Halliday knows how they could maximise a sale.

Fernandez also had interest from Serie A side Atalanta, and there were suggestions that he could be worth over £20m.

The 24-year-old still has plenty of room to improve, and is only one year into a long-term deal.

He had a fantastic game marking Celtic's shiny new forward, Kasper Hogh, who cost the Hoops a whopping £11m this summer.

While speaking to Simon Slaney on Open Goal, Halliday alluded to the "moments" of concentration that Rangers may currently need to work on with Fernandez.

Slaney said: "Big Fernandez was good as well. He bullied Hogh, didn't he?"

Halliday responded: "For 90 per cent of the game, [he] won first contacts, won every duel against Hogh, [and] was good on the ball.

"If he can cut out the one or two moments he seems to have every game, I think Rangers will make a fortune on him."

Fernandez is most likely still being tracked by big clubs ahead of the January window, but it may take a mega offer to make the 49ers consider a sale at such an important stage of the season.

Alongside Fernandez, Youssef Chermiti is arguably Rangers' most valuable asset.

Not only that, but he is also one of the most sought-after players at Ibrox, and was not short of interest in the summer transfer window.

But the 49ers rejected offers for Chermiti, slapping a value on the forward in the region of £34m.

They could do the same with Fernandez, especially given Peterborough would be due a slice of the cut.

He's most likely going to feature in every Scottish Premiership game this season for the Gers, so long as he can stay fit.

A successful season for both himself and the club could see the defender's price skyrocket.
