Rangers told Aribim Pepple and Lorent Tolaj transfer chances by Plymouth chief
Rangers have been linked with Plymouth duo Aribim Pepple and Lorent Tolaj, but they now look set to stay with Argyle.
It's recently been reported that Rangers scouts have been left impressed by the Plymouth pair, ahead of a possible double summer transfer swoop.
Both Pepple and Tolaj are the subject of significant interest following their respective 2025-26 campaigns, however.
Pepple scored 18 times and provided two assists in 41 games for the Sky Bet League One side last season, whilst Tolaj netted 21 times and chipped in with eight assists in 35 total appearances respectively.
The two strikers were both new arrivals for Plymouth last term as well, making their goal contribution returns even more impressive.
Either forward could've been an exciting addition at Ibrox for 2026-27, but now it appears that's unlikely to be the case.
What's been said about Aribim Pepple and Lorent Tolaj exits?
Rangers have already significantly bolstered their firepower ahead of the new season with the signing of Hearts star Lawrence Shankland.
However, it remains to be seen whether new boss Derek McInnes feels the need to make further additions to his forward line this summer, as he aims to guide the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title next term.
Should he indeed be searching for another striker this summer, then it seems as though he will have to take his business away from Plymouth, if indeed he would've had any interest in Pepple or Tolaj anyway.
Speaking in an interview via Plymouth Live, Argyle's chief executive officer Paul Berne has revealed that the Pilgrims aren't actively looking to sell any of their players this summer.
"We have planned that all the players we have got will be with us on day one (of pre-season)," Berne said.
"That's what we plan to do. The players come back to pre-season shortly and Tom (Cleverley) and the coaching staff will start on the prep on that basis.
"It's important to say there is no planned sales. The players that we have currently got with us are planned to be with us on day one of pre-season."
Tolaj would've been better Rangers option than Pepple
As aforementioned, given these two Plymouth stars were linked whilst Danny Rohl was still Rangers head coach perhaps throws into doubt whether they would've been serious targets for McInnes anyway.
If they were or still are, then Tolaj should be the primary target over Pepple, as the Swiss striker not only is a more proven goalscorer, but he's also a more well-rounded player too.
McInnes asks a lot of his forwards defensively too, and Tolaj is excellent in this department.
As per FotMob, he won 22 tackles, made 79 recoveries, won 167 duels and 76 aerial duels in League One for Plymouth last season.
Meanwhile, Pepple - who made 35 league appearances compared to Tolaj's 33 - won 11 tackles, made 67 recoveries, won 142 duels and 67 in the air respectively.
Tolaj also offers more from a link-up perspective than Pepple too, with no striker in League One last season creating more big chances than the former's 10.
Pepple, on the other hand, created only two big chances for his teammates last term, and with Rangers set to play with two in attack - like Argyle did for large parts in 2025-26 - Tolaj would surely have been the more effective in that system.
