Rangers could bankroll the signing of a brand new striker by selling Cyriel Dessers this summer, according to Football Scotland.

Writing on their website (25 June), the news outlet report that Philippe Clement is willing to go big on a new striker this summer if they are proven and prolific.

But any deal would need to be funded by sales to boost the budget, and that could be Dessers with reports from Greece suggesting he is in "advanced talks" to join PAOK after just one season at Ibrox.

Cyriel Dessers out, Lawrence Shankland in at Rangers?

During the January transfer window most people would have been delighted to hear that Dessers would be getting moved on, but opinions have changed slightly in recent times.

The Nigeria international ended the season with 21 goals and five assists in all competitions for the Light Blues and was convincingly the club's first-choice forward for the end of the season.

But if the club are receiving an offer to move him on that gets them their money back as a bare minimum, moving the 29-year-old would make a lot of sense.

Lawrence Shankland, Rangers
Lawrence Shankland has emerged as a target for Rangers

Lawrence Shankland has been targeted by the club for a while now and his prolific and proven record would fit the criteria of what Clement wants for his squad, and he's younger too.

A big fee would be risky and go against the profile the club have been targeting so far in this window, but he's the stand-out and obvious candidate to replace Dessers should he move on.
