Rangers appear set to miss out on the services of Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri this transfer window.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri on 26 August, the Tunisia international is set to undergo his medical to join Burnley.

Gers were in advanced talks to secure the services of the 21-year-old midfielder, but will now have to look at other options. [Africa Foot, 25 July]

The interest from the Ibrox outfit was genuine but the Tunisian always preferred other options instead. [Manchester World, 19 August]

While it seemed that he would seal a move to Spain or France, he's going to stay put in England as the Clarets have convinced him to join

Mejbri would undoubtedly have added a lot of energy and solidity in midfield and given Gers an important presence in that position.

Philippe Clement lost two midfielders in Ryan Jack and John Lundstram this summer and potentially will see Todd Cantwell leaving as well.

That means they're short on options in midfield and even Steven Davis retired last season, making that area of the pitch thinner than ever.

While Connor Barron did arrive this window, another midfielder is something Clement would welcome after the club's unsuccessful pursuit of Sevilla's Joan Jordan.

Hopefully, things are ongoing behind the scenes and there is positive news for Gers fans come the end of the month.
