Rangers set to sign Ben Godfrey as transfer terms revealed for Derek McInnes
Rangers' are ramping up their transfer business with Ben Godfrey set for a move to Ibrox.
The centre-back position is an area that has been lacking heading into next season, with both Derek Cornelius and Nasser Djiga's loans expiring.
Derek McInnes has wasted no time in fixing the holes in this squad as he eyes to bring the Gers back to the peak of the Scottish Premiership.
Godfrey, who has two international caps for England, would certainly aid in those efforts.
At 28 years old, Godrey has plenty of experience in his tank, while also still being in the peak years of his career with Atalanta.
Negotiations are understood to be quite straightforward, with details of the transfer emerging, as well as the general feeling about completing the deal.
How the proposed agreement is expected to work for Rangers and Ben Godfrey
Godfrey looks to be McInnes' second signing of the 2026 summer transfer window and Rangers' third.
The Englishman would arrive through the door after Lawrence Shankland and Ross McCrorie.
According to the Daily Record, Godfrey is set to make a move to Rangers ahead of next season and that McInnes is "hopeful" the deal will be completed.
Rangers are not set to sign the Englishman on a permanent deal, with the proposed move said to be a season-long loan.
Godfrey currently holds a contract in Bergamo until 2028.
The former Everton defender has spent his time at Atalanta since 2024, but has struggled to adapt making just one Serie A appearance.
His time has seen him make three seperate loan moves away to Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Brondy.
Why Godrey is a two-in-one signing for Rangers
Although routinely known as a centre-back, Godfrey could also help fill in numbers in other positions.
The former Everton-man is capable of playing as both a left and right-back, helping fill a void also left by James Tavernier and Max Aarons.
Furthermore, while on loan to Shrewsbury Town in 2017-2018, the 28-year-old played a majority of the season as a defensive midfielder.
However, it is likely he will be used across the defence rather than a role he has not played in nine years.
If Godfrey does join, it would mean McInnes' two signings have both shown a clear level of versatility, and it remains to be seen if that will be a theme as the transfer window rumbles on.
