Rangers risk Djeidi Gassama repeat as deal lined up for Josh Windass

Rangers have again been linked with a move to sign Josh Windass.

The Gers have another huge summer ahead of them as they look to return to the summit of Scottish football, and recruitment will play a big part.

With Danny Rohl set to stay on as manager, Rangers need to back him with the right signings to ensure that progress can be made on the previous campaign.

Windass is the latest to be linked with a move to Ibrox, just as he has been in several other transfer windows.

But Gassama's disappointing debut campaign at Rangers should serve as a warning.

What would Josh Windass bring to Rangers?

Windass has bagged goals for fun in the Championship for several years now, having managed double figures in three of his last four campaigns.

The other campaign saw him score seven goals and two assists, which is still respectable.

However, Gassama had a similar impact in the Championship prior to his move to Rangers, which has yet to work out as planned.

He's managed just three goals in the Scottish Premiership, having found himself dropped from the starting 11 towards the latter stage of the season.

Windass could prove to be a good addition for Rangers, but that is the risk that the Light Blues simply must be aware of.

Windass' contract situation at Wrexham examined

The 32-year-old signed a three-year deal with Wrexham when he joined the club in 2025, meaning he still has two years left on his current deal.

Having scored 16 goals for them in the Championship, it's unlikely they would part ways with him for cheap, despite his age.

A summer transfer would be a risk for Rangers, but whether it is one they will want to take remains to be seen.
