Rangers are prepared to pay up to £3.7million for the transfer of Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei, according to Expressen.

The Swedish publication reported that the Gers are one of several clubs across Europe interested in signing the Ghanaian this summer, with bids "expected shortly".

Hammarby are said to want a fee closer to £5million, but Rangers are initially prepared to pay between £3.3million and £3.7million to secure the 21-year-old.

The summer transfer window has begun at pace for the Gers, with Philippe Clement making his first addition, Jefte, before last season's final match had even taken place [Daily Record].

Since their Scottish Cup Final defeat to Celtic on 25 May, Clement's side have already welcomed back loanee Oscar Cortes for another season-long spell before a permanent transfer, as well as bringing in Clinton Nsiala on a free transfer [Daily Record].

Big money is yet to be spent at Ibrox though, and the many clubs interested in signing Adjei this summer suggest that his prospective transfer could be the one that is driven up towards the £5million threshold.

That's the amount Hammarby want for the 21-year-old, but it may be the case that the Gers aren't willing to go above their own £3.7million valuation for the Ghanaian.

A first-team centre-back has been high on Clement's target list, and after being knocked back for Levski Sofia star Jose Cordoba, Adjei could be the player who fulfils the defensive profile the Belgian wants his side to have next season [The Pink Un].
