The 20-year-old who plays for Kilmarnock already has three goals this season in the Scottish Premiership.

As a result, the youngster has plenty of suitors, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

  • Watson has come through Kilmarnock's academy

  • The youngster is now linked with a move to Rangers

He said: “I’d like to see Derek add another Scottish player to the side, and the obvious target is Watson at Kilmarnock. He’s out of contract at Rugby Park, and no one knows him better than Del.”

Stevenson added: “I’ve heard the Old Firm are looking at him, and Aberdeen are also sniffing about Watson. But I’d like to see Hearts make a real statement of intent and blow all three of them out of the water by bringing Watson in.”

Rangers in talks for Dundee United target Galymzhan Kenzhebek

The Kazakhstani international has shone in his home country, and already has eight goals and five assists from club and country this season.

Joshua Brenet set to miss Ibrox visit

With the weekend’s game coming up, Rangers are set to welcome Livingston to Ibrox.

It will be a match that Rohl will be expected to win, with the visitors struggling at the bottom of the table.

However, Livingston’s position has just gotten significantly weaker, with Joshua Brenet given permission to miss the Rangers match.

This comes after the full-back helped Curacao to qualify for their first-ever World Cup this week.

When Livingston boss David Martindale was asked if Brenet would be available for Saturday’s game following the historic qualification, and said: “No. The flights back anyway were always going to be tight.

“Curacao are throwing a massive celebration for all the players and their families. He said he was happy to miss it if I wanted him back on Friday, but I said: ‘Look, go and enjoy it.’

“So I gave him a couple of extra days and said: ‘Go and enjoy yourself, go and enjoy your moment and we’ll see you next week.'”
