Rangers will face issues retaining Vaclav Cerny on a permanent transfer from Wolfsburg, Kris Boyd says.

The ex-Gers man believes the Light Blues will have a problem buying the Czechia international after Roger Hannah revealed the Bundesliga outfit wants £6.75million for him.

Cerny signed for the Bears on loan from the German club last summer and has become a key player for them this season under Philippe Clement.

Speaking on The Scottish Sun SPORT (3 February), Boyd said: "If Cerny needs to go back to his club, then that's what will happen.

"He's done himself no harm. He's probably given Rangers a problem in terms of the figure they need to pay."

Rangers to complete Vaclav Cerny permanent transfer

Considering the forward's importance at the Glaswegian outfit, it would be sensible for them to make his move permanent for a reasonable fee.

As things stand, Wolfsburg's demands may be influenced by how desperate the Gers might seem to retain Cerny's services.

If Nils Koppen and the recruitment team manage to bring the 27-year-old's price down, then his signing should be sanctioned immediately.

Rangers will arguably have to take a massive gamble on another winger if the Czechia star returns.

The forward has scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 36 appearances for the Light Blues this season, highlighting his significance.

In the absence of the 27-year-old in the starting lineup, Clement has struggled for an appropriate backup on the right-hand side of the attack.

The Ibrox faithful will likely be disheartened if Cerny can't be signed, but they faced similar heartbreak with Abdallah Sima last summer.
