Rangers have no excuse over Findlay Curtis' contract delay.

The Ibrox club are keen to tie the 20-year-old star down to a new deal to ward off interest in his services and have offered fresh terms.

He is currently away with the Scottish camp for the World Cup, as is Bournemouth star Ryan Christie.

The 31-year-old has signed a new contract with the Premier League side, that will keep him on the South Coast until 2029.

That deal was announced on Saturday, despite the 68-cap international being in the United States with Steve Clarke's side.

That should provide the Govan club with some inspiration.

Why Ryan Christie situation is relevant to Findlay Curtis' at Rangers

There is absolutely no excuse for the Gers to not secure Curtis' future with a new contract while he is on international duty at the tournament.

The Cherries tying Christie down while he is at the competition shows that it can be done.

The Light Blues' back-up goalkeeper Liam Kelly's deal was also announced after it had started, although it was likely agreed beforehand.

The next one needs to be the former Kilmarnock loanee, and it needs to be fast, the hierarchy needs to make him an offer he can't refuse.

Why delay could prove terrible for Rangers

A delay could be disastrous for the Gers, as Curtis could increase his stock massively with good performances at the tournament, starting when they play Haiti in the early hours of Sunday morning.

BBC Scotland pundit and ex-Gers coach Kevin Thomson believes that the Auchenhowie product could secure a "big bucks" move away, if he has a good tournament.

That simply can't be an option, though, as he represents far too much to the supporters, on and off the pitch.

He is the next hope of an academy sensation finally making a decisive impact in the first-team at Ibrox, after the likes of Ross McCausland and Bailey Rice failed to do that, so selling him should not even be considered.

However, his contract expires in 2027, so if he does not sign an extension, they may be forced into a difficult decision.

They should get it done as soon as possible, so that his price in negotiations does not skyrocket and they can still afford it before it becomes too much.
