Gheorghe Hagi has insisted he does not know about any transfer deal between Rangers and Galatasaray involving Ianis Hagi despite recent speculation.

Hagi assured that his son was focused on ending the season with Alaves where he has spent the season on loan, before returning to Rangers while he still has a contract at Ibrox.

This comes following reports that the Romanian had agreed to a move to Turkey, although those rumours were also dismissed by Romanian journalist Emanuel Rosu.

Speaking to the media on 31 March, as reported by the Daily Record [1 April], Hagi shared: "All I know is that Ianis will return to Rangers after his loan at Alaves ends at the end of the season.

"He is focused only on Alaves at the moment and he is still there until the summer. Then he still has a contract with Rangers. I don't know anything about a transfer to Galatasaray. I can only tell you what I know."

Ianis Hagi set to remain at Rangers for now despite transfer rumours

Putting two and two together with regard to the latest updates on Hagi's future, it appears any talk about a permanent deal with Galatasaray is largely premature, with the focus still on seeing out the season in Spain before a return to Ibrox.

His father had previously claimed that Hagi wants to return to Ibrox "twice as good" following his loan spell in Spain, and while that may not be the case due to his inconsistency while away, it points towards the return being his most likely move.

Hagi quickly became a fan-favourite at Ibrox during the 2019-20 season, in the Europa League campaign, especially with that free-kick against Braga sticking in the minds of many of the Ibrox faithful who will hope he can return to that level of form.

With transfer rumours likely to circle given the uncertainty over his future, whether Hagi's long-term plan sees him remaining at Ibrox is unclear, but as things stand any move to Turkey looks to be far from immediate.
