Rangers expected to hold Nicolas Raskin talks after failed Ibrox exit

Not many Rangers supporters expected Nicolas Raskin to still be at Ibrox by now.

The Belgium international was heavily linked with a move away from Govan during the summer transfer window.

Raskin saw his stock rise with a series of impressive performances for his country at the World Cup.

However, despite links to the likes of Real Betis, Bologna, Atalanta, and Hull City, Raskin failed to secure a transfer away from Ibrox.

Consequently, Raskin has been heavility utilised by Derek McInnes since the close of the window.

But it has been suggested that the 25-year-old's future probably still lies away from Rangers in the long term.

In fairness to Raskin, he has really knuckled down in recent weeks after failing to secure the exit many expected him to.

He has been influential in helping Rangers secure six straight victories, five in the league, including back-to-back Old Firm wins over Celtic.

Raskin has recently spoken about he was "mentally ready" to quit Ibrox up until the end of the transfer window.

Raskin's former Rangers team-mate Ryan Jack reacted to his admission on the Go Radio Football Show.

Jack said he has no issue with players wanting to show ambition in their careers, and talked up Raskin's talent when he played alongside him.

The pundit, though, speculated that Rangers and Raskin will hold talks at some point to discuss his future.

He said: "He's a Rangers player now, the window's shut,

"I think the manager will probably have had that conversation with him to say that now the move's not happening, keep your focus, keep your drive, keep your determination, and then they'll get to January, sure they'll get to the end of the season and then everyone will sit down and re-evaluate it."

Is Nicolas Raskin's Rangers exit inevitable?

It does feel a little like Rangers are kicking the can down the road with Raskin's exit.

A failed late move to Besiktas also fell through, and though he stayed put it does feel that eventually Raskin will move on.

In some ways, if his head is not really in it then it make sense to take the cash and move on.

If you can get another full season out of Raskin, and hopefully win some trophies, then that could be a good outcome for everyone.

Derek Mcinnes will need to make sure he keeps Raskin focused and engaged if Rangers are to win the Scottish Premiership.

But, in his defence, there has been little to suggest that Raskin is downing tools right now.
