Rangers will be watching closely as West Ham look set to appoint Nils Koppen as their new transfer chief.

The Dutchman initially completed a move to Ibrox as Director of Football Recruitment in January 2024.

He lasted just 10 months in that role before taking the step up to become Technical Director after widespread boardroom changes.

He worked closely with manager Philippe Clement before both eventually departed.

The 39-year-old had a hit and miss spell in Govan and was ultimately replaced by Dan Purdy, who worked alongside Kevin Thelwell in Govan.

Koppen now looks set to land a job at West Ham in a move that will leave the Light Blues feeling justified.

The transfer guru didn't waste any time before landing a new role after leaving G51.

He shortly linked up with Danish giants Copenhagen here he has served as Head of Scouting and Recruitment since October 2025.

Koppen now looks to be on the move as Football Insider reported on Friday that he is in advanced talks ahead of a move to West Ham.

The Hammers are waiting on a work permit hearing before a move can be sealed, with the Dutchman said to be eager for an East London switch.

West Ham certainly don't have the greatest record when it comes to hiring recruitment staff, which may enhance the reputation of Andrew Kavanagh, Paraag Marathe and Co.

Why Rangers' Koppen decision is already looking justified

The transfer chief brought in new methods at Ibrox, but was only given limited time to execute his plans.

That period brought mixed results as top signings like Hamza Igamane and Vaclav Cerny were weighted down by someone like Rafael Fernandes.

The latter and similarly poor deals didn't go down well and he wasn't given a chance to prove himself under new ownership.

That decision may be proven to be the correct one, especially with West Ham so keen on him.

The Hammers have seriously struggled with recruitment for years and have spent lots of money and seen little to no benefit.

That reared its ugly head when they were relegated from the Premier League last season.

The fact that he is now going into such a turbulent side will likely leave the Ibrox hierarchy feeling pretty good about their decision to part ways with him.
