Rangers are still active in the transfer market, and could now make a shock move before the 11 pm deadline.

Youssef Chermiti and Derek Cornelius could be two of several arrivals on deadline day, and some unexpected deals could stilll be struck.

Rangers have had a disastrous start to the season, and any upgrades to the squad would be welcomed, with Russell Martin under huge pressure.

All market opportunities are now being explored, and Rangers could now sign someone who already moved clubs in recent days.

Rangers keen on Pierre Ekwah

Rangers are now reportedly keen on another deadline day deal, as Saint-Etienne midfielder Pierre Ekwah has been targeted, but this comes as a major surprise given that he only just joined them on August 14.

Ekwah spent last season on loan at the French side in Ligue 2 from Sunderland, having previously impressed in the Championship.

  • Ekwah scored five goals and provided two assists in 61 appearances for Sunderland.
  • The 23-year-old is a defensive midfielder, standing at 1.89 metres tall, and has also spent time in the academies at Chelsea and West Ham.

French outlet L'Equipe have now reported that Rangers and Spanish side Levante are both interested in a late move for Ekwah, who made his loan move permanent after an obligation to buy for £6 million.

What would Pierre Ekwah bring to Rangers?

Ekwah would add more legs to the midfield roster, and this would be a welcome addition after the struggles of Joe Rothwell in recent weeks.

With Nicolas Raskin now likely to stay, more midfield options would still be welcomed, but is not a priority as it would have been if the Belgium International departed.

Ekwah is a tough-tackling midfielder who has also appeared at centre-back, and he could provide steel in the middle of the park. This could be welcomed given how defensively vulnerable Rangers have been under Martin.

The midfielder was a key player for Sunderland in the 2023-24 season, but was sent out on loan before their promotion to the Premier League, and he could now find a new club already if Saint Etienne are willing to sell.
