Rangers are in the final stages of discussions with Botafogo for Danilo's transfer.

Talks have been held between the Gers and the Brazilian outfit over a loan-to-buy agreement for the striker.

The 27-year-old doesn't feature in Derek McInnes' plans and is now on his way out of the Light Blues again.

Danilo could leave Ibrox permanently if he hits specific metrics at Botafogo.

The Brazil national joined NEC Nijmegen on loan in the winter transfer window but had an underwhelming spell in the Netherlands.

At the end of the 2025-26 campaign, the Eredivisie outfit decided against triggering the buy option for the centre-forward and he now looks set to return to his homeland.

When Botafogo could make Rangers Danilo loan deal permanent

As things stand, Danilo still has two years left on his contract at the Gers.

The Ibrox hierarchy would surely have hoped NEC would sign him permanently, but that didn't materialise.

Botafogo have now also included a buy-option in the deal for the striker, and according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph via X on 17 July, it's based on the number of games he plays.

The Glaswegian outfit paid around £6million to sign Danilo from Feyenoord in 2023, but it remains to be seen how much they will make from his potential sale.

Derek McInnes may not be done with Ibrox purge

Ibrox News have covered reports of McInnes leaving Danilo and John Souttar out of his pre-season squad to look for an exit from Rangers.

The Scottish manager has shown a ruthless side after taking an assessment of the Gers' squad, which capitulated towards the end of last season.

Plenty more players may soon be told they're surplus to requirements as the Light Blues continue to add to their six summer signings.

Clinton Nsiala, Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland have travelled with the Glaswegian outfit's squad to Spain, but they could potentially have to look for a new club soon.

McInnes will also need to have a tough conversation with one of his strikers, likely Bojan Miovski or Ryan Naderi, with Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti probably his first-choice partnership up top next season.
